Daraga

DARAGA – the gateway to the Province of Sorsogon and to the other towns of Albay, reach this town from different location by riding a bus or any transportation bound to Legazpi City. The most progressive municipality in the province of Albay, it holds the famous ruins of Cagsawa church buried under the lava flow when the Mayon Volcano erupted in the year 1814. This town is the home of the Cagsawa Festival that is a month long celebration in February.

Here’s what I visited in the Municipality of Daraga:
  •  Our Lady of Gates Parish church – situated on the hilltop in the heart of the town, this church was declared a heritage site for it was been standing there for a very long time being. One of the churches with longest aisle, many couple wants to marry each other in this beautiful church. Outside the church is the a beautiful view of the Mayon Volcano.

  • Cagsawa Ruins – holds the remain of the buried Church and the famous tower bell in the Bicol Region, this site is very peaceful and calm. If you want to think deeper, this place will suit you. While watching the Mayon Volcano, be amazed of how the earth nurtured such beautiful natural landscape. There is also a resort inside the area if you want to relax your body under the cold water and souvenir shops for a more convenient shopping.

  • Villa Jesusa – a resort at the foot of the Ligñon Hill. It has two swimming pools, one for the kids and the second one is for the adults that had a maximum depth of 6 feet. It has tents, cottages and native cottages to sleep in for over night swimming.

  • El Carlos – another resort just outside the heart of the town. Situated along the Maharlika Highway bound to Metro Manila.
